The Beachcomber is an open buggy based on the upcoming Countryman. Stripping the new all-wheel-drive car of its roof and doors, the CUV is reminiscent more of the Wrangler than the Mini Moke - the vehicle it was designed to pay tribute. As with the Detroit showing in January, Mini stresses that this vehicle is a concept, however it couldn't help but raise a question in this author's mind: Do we really need yet another CUV?
Mini's recent confirmation that the Countryman will be built alongside their Coupe and Roadster models clearly demonstrates that they're intent on expanding the brand into different segments of the market - a move that shows significant confidence for the formerly one-horse brand.
Brilliant brand direction or dillution?
