This is the fourth vehicle in a five-vehicle production deal that GM made with the Canadian government in exchange for the $9.5 billion dollars that the Canadian and Ontario governments donated loaned to GM during their financial struggles earlier this year.
The first vehicle in the deal was the new for 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which is flying off dealer lots as fast as Oshawa can churn them out. The Oshawa plant has been running on "maximum overtime" since June and still can't keep up with pent-up demand for the reborn musclecar, and GM expects this trend to continue into next year. Production of a Camaro convertible is planned for Q1 2011 also at the Oshawa plant.
The second and third vehicles in the 5-vehicle deal are the new Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain which are built at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. The fifth and final vehicle has not yet been named.
The 2011 Buick Regal is based on the European Opel Insignia, which won several awards for design and technology, including "2009 European Car of the Year". This car is charged with bringing some sporting DNA back to the Buick brand, which has lacked in that department in recent years.
